Gum grafting is the corrective procedure that restores the gum to its natural, healthy state. Many times, there is a lack of gum to protect a tooth, due to overfunction, toothbrush abrasion, or just the way your mouth is “built”. Using soft gum tissue from the roof of the mouth, or human donor skin matrix called Alloderm, the receded gums are grafted replaced. The goal of the graft is to cover exposed, sensitive tooth and root surfaces with healthy protective gum tissue. This grafting encourages new tissue growth that will enable the gums to seal to the bone. This will prevent tooth loss, and restore the gum to a healthy and pleasant looking state.
